Antigua

Antigua* ticks a lot of boxes for holidaymakers. It has sunshine on tap, a seemingly endless supply of incredible beaches, lots of day trip options such as an island safari or snorkelling, and plenty of history to get stuck into.

Balearic Islands

The four islands of Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera make up the archipelago of the Balearic Islands*, located in the Mediterranean Sea off Spain's east coast. Each island offers something different and each also has its own following of devoted holidaymakers who find plenty of reasons to return year after year.

Majorca*'s big hitter is the capital of Palma, with its Gothic cathedral, boutiques and fine restaurants, not to mention its well-stocked resorts, beaches and award-winning restaurants located around the island.

Ibiza* has its well-known party scene as well as a quieter, more laidback pace that appeals to many wanting to soak up the sun. Meanwhile, Menorca* is much-loved by walkers and tiny Formentera*, with its white sandy beaches, sits quietly a short ferry ride from Ibiza.

Barbados

With more than 92 km of platinum beaches for holidaymakers to unfurl themselves on, it's really no wonder Barbados* draws people back again and again.

What's more there's a wide selection of places to stay from lively and loud, such as St James and St Peter, known for their reggae bars and calypso clubs, to quieter spots like Maxwell Beach made for romantics. Canary Islands

Croatia

Croatia* has become increasingly popular with discerning holidaymakers over the last few years. It has the benefit of being able to offer something for everyone, often without the crowds.

While history can be explored within the walls of Dubrovnik* and ancient Split*, there are beaches of all shapes and sizes, whether sandy or pebbly, along its lengthy Adriatic coast. Croatia is also peppered with more than 1,000 dreamy islands, many uninhabited, some car-free and plenty fit for day trips or longer.

Cyprus

Cyprus* is the third-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and a super holiday destination. The coastal resorts are well-equipped with a range of accommodation from simple self-catering apartments to luxurious hotels, all well-positioned to help you make the most of the many Blue Flag awarded beaches.

Given its colourful past, occupied by everyone from the Assyrians to the Romans, Ottomans and British, Cyprus is also fully loaded with historic and archaeological sites, including three UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

There are plenty of ways to keep busy too. From hiking in the pine-clad Troodos Mountains, where the highest peak, Mount Olympos, looms large, to booking day trips, boat trips, water sports and following a themed cultural route around the island, be it a nature trail or cycling, wine, cultural or religious route.

Grenada

Iceland

Jamaica

The Caribbean paradise that is Jamaica* is everything you would hope for and more. We're talking platinum sandy beaches with casual beach bars serving ice-cold Red Stripe and taste bud-tingling jerk chicken to the soundtrack of waves gently rolling into shore.

It's a place where you can kick back and enjoy some serious down time in the main resorts of Montego Bay*, Ocho Rios* and Negril*.

That's not to say there isn't plenty to do away from the beach: choose from hiking to waterfalls, visiting plantations, voyaging out to sea or taking on the Appleton Estate rum experience.

You could also delve into the island's culture at the Rastafari Indigenous Village, get to know the legend that was at the Bob Marley Museum and learn about Jamaica's history, including the period of British rule and the dark realities of the slave trade.

Jersey

Jersey*, the largest of the Channel Islands just off the coast of Normandy, is steeped in history and bursting with natural beauty. The north side of the island is more rugged and rocky while the southern and western sides boast endless beaches lapped by turquoise waters.

Kenya
