Philippines weather overview

The Philippine archipelago of more than 7,000 islands has a hot, steamy, equatorial climate in the south with heavy rainfall all year. In the north and central Philippines, a tropical climate prevails with a single rainy season which can run from late May to early November. The heaviest rains occur from July to October. Swept in by ferocious typhoons from the South China Sea, these can sometimes cause extensive damage and loss of life.

The summers are hot, cloudy and often muggy and oppressive. Many of the Philippine islands are mountainous and the higher reaches frequently experience heavy cloud and rainfall. The best time to visit is during the dry winter months (November to February) when conditions are sunny and pleasant and sea breezes dissipate humidity.

What to pack for Philippines weather

Light clothing is appropriate for any time of the year but should be supplemented with slightly warmer attire for mountain visits and chilly evenings. Be well prepared for the heavy rains in the summer months.
