Things to do in Gran Canaria in May 2025

The party HQ of Maspalomas Gay Pride is actually in neighbouring Playa del Inglés, within the legendary Yumbo. There are drag shows and DJ sets from some of the biggest names in international dance music along with fashion shows and pool parties.

Geographically African but politically Spanish, Gran Canaria shows its Iberian side in May with more romerías. Take your pick from May's first Saturday where in the east of the island, Telde's El Calero pays tribute to Nuestra Señora Virgen de Fátima whilst southeast Gran Canaria's El Sequero offers homage to Santa Cruz (the saint rather than the place).

Enjoy the folk offs across the island in late May. This is El Día de Canarias with islanders given the day off work and flocking to the major municipal squares etc such as the capital's Parque Santa Catalina to sing and dance along to traditional Canarian music. In truth, the party starts the night before with concerts and firework displays.
