Things to do in Gran Canaria in June 2022
June is very much party season in Gran Canaria, especially so in the capital where they celebrate the city's birthday on 24th June 1478. This date coincides with the Noche de San Juan where locals congregate on Las Canteras Beach for a spot of nightswimming and to take in a pyrotechnics display. Head westwards along the GC-2 to Arucas' Fiestas de San Juan Bautista, John the Baptist being the patron saint of the municipality, take up a sizeable chunk of the month.
Even further west, Gáldar's Festival La Guancha combines contemporary music with a shout out for the canarii, the island's Berber-descending tribes who occupied the island prior to the 15th-century Castilian conquest. Meanwhile, the celebration's more Canarian in the valley of Agaete's Fiestas Patronales San Pedro. As it's at the similarly-titled Fiestas Patronales en Honor a San Pedro in Guía's La Atalaya.
Down south, in ExpoMeloneras, get a preview of what the beautiful people will be wearing on the beach come summer at Gran Canaria Swimwear Week. Alternatively, ditch the catwalk for the moshpit at Vecindario's Hard Skull Fest. A quieter option can be found at Mogán's Fiestas Patronales de San Antonio el Chico.
