Chad weather overview

Chad lies in West Africa's interior with Sudan on its eastern border and Niger to the west. Its north lies in the Sahara Desert and is subsequently very hot and dry with minimal rain. Further south, in the Sahel region, there is a rainy season during the period of high sun from May to September.

Even during the rains there are six to seven hours of sunshine every day; the dry season brings up to 11 sunshine hours daily with warm to hot weather, tempered by the Harmattan winds from the northeast. The rains bring a change in wind direction, blowing in from the southwest laden with moist air from the South Atlantic.

Temperatures and humidity rise as the rains approach and thundery showers are frequent when they arrive.

What to pack for Chad weather

It you are travelling during the dry season, take warm clothes to combat chilly night temperatures and frequent strong winds. Remember rainwear from May to September.
