Botswana weather overview

This vast, lonely country - set in the heart of Southern Africa with Namibia and Zimbabwe at its northern borders - forms part of the Kalahari Desert and has a typical desert to semi-desert climate with little rainfall. What rain there is arrives mainly between November and March but is sporadic and brings little relief from soaring temperatures prevalent during those months.

The south and western regions of Botswana get very little rain indeed, even in this 'wet' season. Best time to visit is between May and September, when cooler weather prevails and it even gets quite nippy at night, with occasional frosts.

What to pack for Botswana weather

A mixture of light and warm clothing for the cooler nights is recommended.
