Yemen weather overview

The climate of the small, mountainous country of Yemen varies with altitude. Its Red Sea coast is hot and humid in the summer but experiences very little rain, and the mixture of extreme heat, sticky air and dust makes it an unpleasant place to be. Time a visit to the coast between November and March, if you can.

Up in the mountains, the climate is much more temperate with rainfall sufficiently high to allow the cultivation of coffee beans and other crops. Summers are warm and rainy with strong sunshine but winter temperatures can fall very low.

What to pack for Yemen weather

Take light clothes whatever the time of year if you are visiting the coast (remember head protection in the summer months). Supplement light to medium clothing with rainwear for visiting the mountains in the summer. You'll need very warm clothing if contemplating a winter trip into the Yemen highlands.
