Vanuatu weather overview
Vanuatu consists of a chain of islands in the south-west Pacific running more or less north to south, wedged between Fiji and New Caledonia. All the islands are densely forested, lush, mountainous - and volcanic. Indeed, Vanuatu has more active volcanoes than any other country in the region. It also has the dubious distinction of being the region's most hurricane-prone country; these are most likely to occur between January and April and can be ferocious.
Nervous travellers should keep to the southernmost islands, where the climate is subtropical and less prone to rain and hurricanes than the tropical north. The rainy season is from November to April but a hot, rainy climate prevails year-round. Best time to visit is between May and October, when conditions are coolest and driest.
What to pack for Vanuatu weather
Take light clothing and rainwear whenever you go. The southern islands can be considerably cooler between June and September, so take a wrap.
