Burma weather overview
Burma is a large, long, sprawling country with mountains on the coast, to the north and to the east. These take the brunt of the southwest monsoon rains. The central lowlands (including Mandalay) are the driest region. Temperatures reach a peak between March and May, just prior to the arrival of the monsoon and, at this time of the year, humidity is high even inland, while coastal areas can feel very clammy indeed.
The rains last from May to October and the best time to visit is during the winter (the dry season) when temperatures are lower and conditions bright and fresh with up to 10 hours of sunshine a day.
What to pack for Burma weather
Winter evenings can be cool, so it is a good idea to supplement the light clothing appropriate for the summer months with warmer attire. The rainy season is hot, so take a light raincoat.
