Bahamas weather overview

The Bahamas are the most northerly of the Caribbean islands. They comprise some 700 tropical coral islands, only 30 of which are inhabited, together with more than 1,000 small islands or reefs known as Cays. There is some rain all year but the wettest months are from May to October.

In the northern islands (including Nassau on New Providence), winter temperatures can, on occasion, drop below 15°C (60°F) as a result of colder continental air blowing down from North America.

Summers are hotter and more humid with an average of nine hours of daily sunshine. Hurricanes can hit between July and November.
