Balearic Islands weather overview

The archipelago of the Balearic Islands is an autonomous Spanish community. Located off the east coast of mainland Spain, it has an inviting Mediterranean climate, which appeals all year round, especially in summer.

There are four main islands, Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Majorca is the largest and home to the islands' capital, Palma. The islands offer a mix of history and culture, beaches, watersports, lively nightlife and rural countryside with networks of walking trails.

The Balearic Islands, of which the best known are Majorca, Minorca and Ibiza, are popular holiday spots throughout the year thanks to their Mediterranean climate which brings hot summers and warm winters.

Even at the height of summer, these islands are a delight because the sun's rays are tempered by gentle sea breezes and, in the winter, you can look forward to five hours of sunshine a day.

Rainfall is generally light, particularly during the summer months but rain can fall at any time and winter showers can be heavy.

What to pack for Balearic Islands weather

Even in the summer, supplement light clothes and beachwear with a warm cover-up for breezy evenings. In winter you'll need warmer clothing - the evenings can be cold.
