Antigua's weather - an overview

Antigua is the largest of the Leeward Islands and its inhabitants are heavily into tourism and cricket. Its 'sister' island, Barbuda, is a complete contrast: very exclusive with just two luxury hotels and a frigate colony.

Torrential rain and the occasional hurricane can afflict these islands between July and November but, outside the rainy season, the islands are drier than many parts of the Caribbean.

More about tropical storms

They are consistently hot with an all-year average of eight to nine hours of sunshine a day. Winters are slightly cooler. The heat here is rarely too sticky as sea breezes offset the humidity.

What to pack for Antigua weather

Take light clothing with cover-ups for the occasional chilly winter evening; be prepared for bouts of heavy rain between July and November.
