About Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet* is one of the most instantly recognisable publishers of authoritative travel guides in the world. It traces its roots back to Australia, 1973, when husband-and-wife team, Tony and Maureen Wheeler published their first book, Across Asia on the Cheap.
The company grew from this base, remaining independent until 2007 when it was sold to BBC Worldwide and then again 2013 to NC2 Media, a US-based content creator.
Today, Lonely Planet has sold more than 120 million guides and continues to shares in-depth, authoritative travel advice and information to independent travellers via its printed guidebooks and digital e-guidebooks*, Guides app*, language phrasebooks*, maps, website and magazine.
