Jamaica weather overview
Jamaica is a large, mountainous tropical island that lies to the south of Cuba and west of Haiti. Its Blue Mountains tower up to 2,700m (7,500 ft) and their northern slopes get substantial rainfall all year. Kingston's sheltered south coast and the popular tourist resorts of the north coast are much dryer. Most rain falls between May and October and there is the risk of a passing hurricane during the latter part of this period.
Temperatures are consistently hot with an average of 8 hours of daily sunshine throughout the year and sea breezes help to counter the effects of heat and humidity.
What to pack for Jamaica weather
Take light clothing of natural fibre to keep your cool in the moist heat, and take warmer cover-ups for the winter evenings and trips to higher ground.
