Laos weather overview

Laos is a hilly, landlocked country with jungle covering more than 60 per cent of its surface. It has a single rainy season (May to October) and a dry, sunny climate, averaging 8 hours of daily sunshine for the rest of the year. The best time to visit Laos is during the winter months when the humidity, which makes the rainy season such a trial, abates.

What to pack for Laos weather

In low-lying areas, light clothing is fine whatever the time of year, but be prepared for the monsoon rains. Winter conditions are chillier up in the mountains, especially when cloudy fronts blow in from China, so take warmer clothing if you are planning to go high up.
