Royal Caribbean has no less than 25 state of the art cruise ships with every luxury you could imagine on board. The fleet is made up of eight different classes, or types, of ship, every class with its own character, be it in relation to size, facilities or destinations covered.

Empress class

The Empress class is currently limited to one ship only, the Empress of the Seas, which has been reincarnated and added to the schedule for Royal Caribbean's 2024/2025 cruise itineraries.

The Empress is smaller and more intimate than some of Royal Caribbean's enormous cruise ships, with nine passenger decks and a special focus on destinations around the Caribbean and Florida.

Freedom class

Freedom class ships were, until 2009, the largest cruise liners in the world stretching nearly 400 metres in length with 18 decks and a capacity of more than 4,000 passengers.

All Freedom ships include facilities such as an ice skating rink, basketball court, and even mini-golf while some new features which have been added subsequently include the thrilling FlowRider surf simulator, H2O Zone kids' water park, and, for those with a head for heights, hot tubs protruding from the side of the ship.

Oasis class

Oasis ships stole the title of world's largest cruise ship from the Freedom class of liners in 2009, when they launched with Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas.

Harmony of the Seas is the baby of the bunch, setting sail for this first time in 2016. Expect bucket loads of style and every facility you could wish for on board any Oasis class ship, including flumes, a zip line, shopping mall and more.

The three Oasis liners can often be found in the Bahamas and other islands dotted around the Caribbean.

Quantum class

Royal Caribbean's Quantum class of ship is not only its newest but also a collection of the second largest cruise ships in the world. Quantum class ships include the latest technology and informed design with indoor swimming pools, retractable roofs, and the most modern of activities.

The 'North Star' observation pod is a spectacular addition; mounted on the end of a 41 metre crane, it whisks passengers high up and above for a real bird's eye view of the ship and the open ocean.

Other exciting activities exclusive to Quantum class ships include the RipCord by iFly skydiving simulator, and the SeaPlex arena, which can host anything from basketball and roller skating to dodgem style cars and trapeze school for those keen to learn something new.

Radiance class

Radiance class ships are a little special being both slightly more environmentally friendly running off gas turbine engines, and also built to be able to t sail through the Panama Canal.

Built between 2001 and 2004, the four Radiance class ships all boats plenty of space and light with large panoramic windows and even exterior glass lifts.

Sovereign class

The Sovereign class has decreased in number over the years, and Majesty of the Seas the only original cast member remaining. They were the first so-called mega ships, converted ocean liners, to hit the waves.

Majesty, which was built in 1992 and is typically found in the Bahamas, has recently undergone a huge renovation to bring it up to date in terms of style, design and technology.

Vision class

Vision ships are less a 'class' and more an extended family that originally consisted of three sets of sister ships totalling six, although now Royal Caribbean own and operate five.

Voyager class

The Voyager class of ships were, at the time they were built, the largest class of cruise liner out there. Launched between 1999 and 2003, they were real trend setters as the first ships to have facilities such as an ice rink, and Royal Caribbean's trademark Promenade, complete with shops, bars and cafes.
