Vietnam weather overview

Vietnam, which is now attracting more and more visitors, is a tropical country with a typical monsoon climate. Most of the country has one rainy season from May to September when humidity is at its highest and conditions can be sultry and oppressive. Outside these months, much of Vietnam is virtually dry. Exceptions to this are parts of the central highlands which experience most of their rain between September and January.

The south of Vietnam is warmest and sunniest during the dry winter months. In the north, there is very little sun and cold fronts blowing in from China reduce temperatures.

What to pack for Vietnam weather

Take light clothing, rainwear during the monsoon season and warmer clothing if you are going north or up into the mountains during the winter.
