Canary Islands Weather Summary

This seven-island Spanish archipelago has a Mediterranean climate with almost no rainfall in the summer months. Winters are rainier, especially in the north. The islands are rocky and volcanic and have snow on their highest peaks although, at sea-level, summers are warm and winters very mild with occasional fog.

The cold Canaries Current of the Atlantic Ocean prevents summer temperatures from climbing uncomfortably high. The warmest days occur when hot, dry, dust-laden air is drawn out of the Sahara desert and reaches as far as the islands.

What to Pack

Light clothing is fine for summer. Take slightly warmer wear in the winter months.
